STEAC seeks to fill vacancy with resident from First Ward

A Salisbury Township First Ward resident is sought to fill a vacancy on the Salisbury Township Environmental Advisory Council.

While two township residents have expressed interest in serving on the volunteer panel, they are not from the First Ward.

The vacancy follows the resignation of Sandra Thomas from the STEAC.

Information about the STEAC vacancy is posted on the township website.

The term of the appoint- ment ends Jan. 1, 2016.

Those interested in applying are to download and complete the application form on the township website and mail it and a resume to Salisbury Township Manager Randy Soriano, 2900 S. Pike Ave., Allentown, 18103 or email it to rsoriano@salisburytownshippa.org.

The application deadline is Nov. 30.

The application was posted Oct. 23 on the township website.

If a First Ward resident does not apply, the township board of commissioners could consider applicants from other township wards.

The STEAC meets 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month.

The STEAC next meets 7 p.m. Nov. 19 in the municipal building.

The STEAC has five residents appointed by township commissioners from each of the five wards.

In addition, one member is a representative from the township planning commission, another member is a liaison from the township commissioners.

Members of the STEAC serve three-year staggered terms.

The STEAC is tasked with exploring and promoting environmental initiatives in the township.

The STEAC works at the direction of the commissioners and as an extension of township staff to research environmental issues and funding sources; to advise the township manager and commissioners; to sponsor environmental education; to partner with township residents, outside agencies and organizations with similar interests, and to coordinate environmental projects.
