STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Q. What grade are you currently in?

A. I am currently a senior at Salisbury High School.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is math. I enjoy picking apart complicated problems and reaching a solution.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I am a Commended Student in the National Merit Scholarship Program. I am also a member of Salisbury's National Honor Society.

Q. What extracurricular activities are you involved in, both in and out of school?

A. In school, I have been on the cross-country team for four years and the track team for three (soon to be four). Outside of school, I am a Boy Scout in Troop 146. I am currently working toward my Eagle Scout rank.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. I plan on attending college and studying computer science, with a focus on game development.

Q. What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?

A. My biggest challenge was getting my junior black belt in 2010. I had never put so much time and effort into anything prior to that, and the test itself was, and still is, the hardest test I had ever taken.

Q. What do you want to be remembered for?

A. I want to be remembered for being honest and always finishing what I started, no matter how difficult or stressful.

Q. Who is in your family?

A. My mom, Karen; my dad, Bill; and my brother, Logan.

Q. Do you have someone you look up to?

A. I admire my parents for working hard to attain success and doing what they want to do with their lives. I admire Thom Yorke for resisting the pressure to achieve mainstream success and sticking with what he wanted to do as an artist.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. Take school seriously and work hard at it; a good grade you spent hours and days and weeks to attain will feel a whole lot better than a good grade you didn't work at. The things you learn here might not matter a whole lot to you now, but the skills you develop here are important to your success later in life.
