Northampton School Board approves resignations, hirings
The Northampton Area School Board approved a number of resignations, by unanimous 9-0 votes at the recommendation of the administration at its Oct. 13 meeting:
· Patricia Daubenspeck, grade 1 elementary teacher, for retirement, effective June 2, 2015, or the last teacher day of the 2014-15 school year;
· Mark Jonkman, music teacher, for retirement, effective June 2, 2015, or the last teacher day of the 2014-15 school year;
· Lisa Manno, spring musical vocal director-advisor, effective Sept. 22;
· Melissa Adams, assistant boys and girls swim coach, effective Oct. 6;
· Edward Seidick, assistant girls basketball coach, effective Oct. 8;
· Kimberly Shelly, cafeteria monitor, effective Oct. 15;
· Linda Troxell, cafeteria monitor, effective retroactive to Sept. 19;
· Cynthia Canterbury, 12-month secretary, effective Oct. 10;
Also approved by a 9-0 vote:
· Termination of Claudia Linden, water aerobics instructor, Community Education Program, effective Oct. 8;
· Half-year medical sabbatical for Lydia Golas, grade 6 teacher at Moore Elementary School, effective Oct. 21, through on or about March 18, 2015;
· Half-year medical sabbatical for Leanne Gaughran, English teacher at Northampton Area High School, effective Oct. 16, through on or about March 16, 2015;
· Extension of unpaid childrearing leave for Christine Fischer, mathematics teacher at Northampton Area Middle School, through the remainder of the 2014-15 school year.
School directors voted 9-0 to hire:
· Jessica Pretopapa, English teacher at Northampton Area High School, effective Oct. 14, through on or about March 24, 2015, at $49,198, pro-rated without benefits;
· Stephanie Remington, assistant girls basketball coach, at $5,342;
· Eugenia Ann Emert, water aerobics instructor, Community Education Program, at $20 per hour, effective immediately;
· Barbara Watkins reinstated as a 12-month secretary at an hourly rate of $19.61, with benefits, effective Oct. 14;
· Leanne Follweiler, cafeteria monitor, Moore Elementary School, effective Oct. 14 at $11.02 per hour, no benefits;
Also approved 9-0:
· Voluntary transfer of Mary Louise Mason from cafeteria monitor, Northampton Area High School, to cafeteria monitor, Lehigh Elementary School, effective Oct. 16;
· Additions to the district volunteer master listing for the 2014-15 school year: Melissa Adams, athletic; Brittany Greene and Michole Pignato, both, Borough Elementary School; and Janet Klose and Ellen Stenger, both, Lehigh Elementary School;
· Contract with the confidential secretaries, July 1 through June 30, 2017;
· Lauren Ezzell and an additional chaperone, Kevin Ezzell, to accompany Northampton Area High School students to Quebec, June 18-21, 2015. There will be no cost to NASD;
· Terry Leh to attend the annual Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials conference, March 10 - 13, Hershey, at an approximate cost of $791;
· Attendance of Theresa Wenck at the Annual American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages and the German American Partnership Program Conference, Nov. 21-23 at an approximate cost of $100;
· Annual service agreement with AssetWorks, Inc., for database application service, support and maintenance, Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2015, at $1,350 for the period;
· Accept, with appreciation, the donation of 15 smocks at Northampton Area Middle School wood technology department by the Vine family in memory of Nathan V. Amato for a value of $109.71; and
· A $500 donation to Northampton Area Middle School Gifted Support Program from the Mark Vine family in memory of Nathan V. Amato to purchase miscellaneous supplies and materials to support activities.
