Scheitrum Classic set for this weekend

The second annual Scheitrum Classic will be played this weekend at Emmaus High School. The girls basketball tournament opens Friday at 6 p.m. and the final game, which features the Emmaus varsity team, is slated for 2 p.m. Sunday.

The event raises money for the American Cancer Society and was inspired by Lynn Scheitrum's battle with cancer. Scheitrum was the wife of long time Emmaus assistant basketball coach Carl Scheitrum and mother of 2007 Emmaus graduate Kristin Scheitrum, who is third all-time in scoring for Emmaus girls basketball. Lynn Scheitrum lost her battle with cancer this past July. Last year's event raised $500.

Teams from 10 different schools will compete and the Emmaus varsity team will be playing at the following times:

Friday - 8 p.m. vs. Upper Perkiomen; Saturday - 11 a.m. vs. Lehighton and 3 p.m. vs. Pennwood; Sunday - 2 p.m. vs. Shenandoah Valley. The Lady Hornet junior varsity team will play Saturday at 9 a.m. vs. Quakertown and Sunday at noon against Lehighton.
