Superintendent tenders resignation

Salisbury Township School District Superintendent Michael Q. Roth has tendered his resignation.

The official announcement of a superintendent replacement will be announced shortly according Board President Russell Giordano.

"While we are very disappointed Michael has decided to leave public education, we certainly wish him well and thank him for the good things he brought to the district," Giordano said.

"While only Mr. Roth knows exactly what factors led to his decision, it is clear continuing burdensome regulations and lack of support for public education coming from Harrisburg played a significant role."

Roth's last day in the district is expected to be Jan. 4, 2015.

Roth joined the district Nov. 1, 2012 replacing Interim Superintendent Louise Beauchemin.

Beauchemin took over for Superintendent Robert R. Gross III who died May 30, 2012. Gross had been the superintendent for two years.

Prior to coming to Salisbury, Roth was an assistant superintendent in the Nazareth Area School District.

He is a graduate of Pen Argyl High School as well as Moravian College in Bethlehem.

Roth received his master's degree from Wilkes University and his superintendent letter of eligibility from Lehigh University.

When joining Salisbury, he was given a 5-year term ending June 30, 2017.
