Two rivals will play for causes and the Mountain Road Rumble Trophy

The Northwestern Lehigh vs. Northern Lehigh varsity football game has served as a big rivalry contest for both schools since 1957.

For the past few years, both schools have turned this rivalry into an opportunity to raise awareness and money for two organizations that are near and dear to both football programs: the Bo Tkach "Under the Helmet" Foundation and the Tackle ALS/Brett Snyder Medical Fund.

After a hiatus during the 2013 campaign, the Northwestern Lehigh Athletic Department, with the help of Jim Tkach and Ron Kuntz, has re-energized its efforts in raising awareness for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and other mental health issues our students are faced with, as well as the fight against ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Both schools are very proud to announce that the 2014 version of the Northwestern Lehigh vs. Northern Lehigh varsity football game will now and forever be known as "Bo and Brett's Mountain Road Rumble," because Mountain Road serves as the main thoroughfare between Slatington and New Tripoli.

The winners of this game will have the honor of displaying the trophy in their school's trophy case until the following year's contest.

The Bo Tkach Foundation has also donated water bottles to both cheerleading squads to be passed out during the game and spats that players from both teams will proudly wear during the game.

Northern Lehigh will wear their traditional white spats while Northwestern Lehigh players will wear one orange spat (representing the Bo Tkach Foundation) and one blue spat (representing Tackle ALS and Brett Snyder).

The Bo Tkach Foundation will have a tent set up inside the stadium to distribute literature and accept donations and the Northwestern Lehigh grounds crew will have a special feature on the field in recognition of what both Bo and Brett have meant to our football programs.

At the conclusion of the contest, both longtime coaches, Jim Tkach and Bob Mitchell, will present the victors with the Mountain Road Rumble Championship Trophy.

Northwestern Lehigh would like to thank everyone who has worked so diligently to pull this event together, especially Ron Kuntz, who doesn't want recognition and prefers to stay behind the scenes.

This has truly become an event where both communities can come together, support two outstanding causes, and enjoy a great football game between two storied programs.
