Students earn

honors, awards

The following area residents were honored during Millersville University's Honors and Awards Convocation:

Allentown:Jason Klinger received the NE Shoemaker Biology Teaching Scholarship and the Students of Academic Distinction Jessica Fritsche received the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete Award;

Kempton:Magenta Hensinger received the Students of Academic Distinction, and the Cecil M. Upton Organic Chemistry awards;

Breinigsville:Jamie Motsko received the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete, Students of Academic Distinction, and the Rev. Lewis Merwin Hobbs Medallion/Dr. Dominick '53 and Mrs. Helen DiNunzio awards;

Orefield:Joseph Steinmacher, Amy Parker and Joseph Steinmacher received Students of Academic Distinction awards; and

Fogelsville: Emily Bartlett received the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete Award.

make dean's list

The following local residents were named to the fall 2013 dean's list at Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, N.Y.

Allentown: Andrew Derhammer, mechanical engineering; Erik Freeman, biomedical engineering; Liam McElroy, arts and imaging studies;

Laurys Station: David Fediaczko, electrical engineering; John Fediaczko, game design and development;

Schnecksville:Camille Johnson, biomedical engineering; Brandon Miller, mechanical engineering; Morgan Reed of Schnecksville, new media design and imaging; and

Orefield: Trevor McCleary, industrial design.

Degree-seeking undergraduates are eligible for dean's list if their quarterly grade-point average is greater than or equal to 3.4, do not have any grades of "Incomplete," "D" or "F"; and they have registered for and completed, at least 12 credit hours.

The following students were named to the dean's list for outstanding academic achievement during the fall 2013 semester at Lafayette College, Easton: Kyle Lievre, Melody Alam, Frank Amicoand Carly Trachtman, all of Allentown.

Each student achieved at least a 3.60 semester grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

on dean's list

Cathleen Fry of Allentown, a chemistry major, was named to the 2013 fall and spring 2014 dean's lists at St Francis University, Loretto, Bedford County.

To earn dean's list, students must have had a full-time status and retained a grade-point average of at least 3.5 for the semester.

Albright

Student does

research project

Patrick Wise from Kutztown, a biochemistry major at Albright College, Reading, spent the summer tackling an Albright Creative Research Experience project.

ACRE is a multi-disciplinary program giving undergraduate students the opportunity to conduct research or pursue creative endeavors during the summer break or the three-week January interim.

Wise's project is "Synthesis of Chiral Aluminum Bis(amidate) Complexes and their Catalytic Activity for Asymmetric Ketone Reduction."

His faculty adviser is assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry Christopher Graves Ph.D.

Wise was also selected to serve as an Albright College residential assistant for the 2014-15 academic year.

RAs seek to facilitate a safe, supportive and inclusive living-learning community that fosters the academic success and personal growth of each resident student through purposeful programs and services that compliment the educational experience at Albright.
