STUDENT OF THE WEEK Ryan Bilger

Q: What grade are you in?

A: I am in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.

Q: What is your favorite subject? Why?

A: My favorite subject is history. I have studied history for most of my life, because I just find it so interesting to learn about the amazing people and events that helped us get to where we are today.

Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A: I am a National Merit Scholar semifinalist, I have been on the Principal's Honor Roll for every quarter so far of my high school career and I am a member of National Honor Society.

Q: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

A: I am the captain and president of the Emmaus High School Academic Team, as well as the president of the EHS German club. I am a Life Scout in Boy Scout Troop 71 in Macungie and I play soccer recreationally.

Q: What is your next goal after high school?

A: My next goal is to go to college and complete a double major in history and political science.

Q: What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?

A: My biggest challenge has been balancing my various responsibilities while still maintaining some time for relaxation.

Q: What do you want to be remembered for?

A: I want to be remembered as a person others always felt comfortable being around, who they knew they could talk to if they needed to and who would always help them out when they were down.

Q: Who is in your family?

A: I live with my father, Kurt, my mother, Cathy, my sister, Kaitlin and our guinea pig, Clover.

Q: Do you have someone you look up to?

A: I look up to my parents for always being there for me and providing for our family. I also look up to Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr. for the way they used peaceful protesting to change the lives of millions.

Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?

A: Appreciate every single day. Look at challenges as merely speed bumps on your road to success, you will get through them. Make sure you learn something new every day. Be yourself, have fun, and if you really want something, never, ever give up until you have attained it.
