Woof World offers canines a home away from home

Woof World, a dog daycare with cage-free boarding, recently opened its doors for new clients at 801 N. 13th St., Allentown.

Kara Gruver said she and her husband Scott purchased the business at the end of June, but have been involved with Woof World since the previous winter.

"We offer dog daycare and cage-free boarding primarily, but are also excited to expand into our services for our customers as well," Gruver said.

The Gruvers chose to work in the pet care industry because they have always adored their pets.

"In fact, Scott's marriage proposal to me included my two dogs in a field where the ring accompanied a dog biscuit," she said. "In the many years before we adopted our human children, our dogs and cat were our only kids and they were always a great comfort to us.

"It is truly an honor to care for the four-footed children of others, who continuously fill their lives with joy and fulfillment."

Woof World is unique because employees care for the dogs 24 hours a day.

During overnight hours, a staff member stays to ensure the pups are safe and comfortable.

"We also offer very flexible hours for drop-off and pickup to accommodate our customers' schedules," Gruver said. "We provide many services free of charge, such as giving medication, giving extra attention or comfort to a particular dog or assisting with transportation in the event of a dog's illness or injury.

"Our staff members are known for going above and beyond to love a customer's dog just as they do their own.

"Woof World provides an atmosphere of home and family that is evident from the moment one walks in the door."

The business' greatest strength is the love and commitment of the employees.

"Many of our employees have been a part of Woof World for a long time," Gruver said. "They truly love what they do and are shining beacons in the community.

"We also love our customers and are thankful for their excitement about Woof World and for continuing to make it a home-away-from-home for their precious dogs."

The Gruvers, their 17-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son, and their pets, Scrappy, a Brittney Spaniel mix, and Steven, a black and white cat, live in Reading.

Woof World is open from 6:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Friday andfrom 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
