Sophomore Honors American Literature II classes at Whitehall High School are preparing for the 2014-15 National PoetryOutLoud competition.
Each participant must memorize and present a vetted, approved poem, and is then evaluated by a panel of judges on accuracy, articulation, dramatic appropriateness and evidence of understanding.
The winner of the school wide competition goes on to represent WHS at the regional competition at the Allentown Art Museum.
Last year Whitehall's Gazal Jabir was runner-up in the regional contest, narrowly missing the opportunity to go on to states at the governor's mansion in Harrisburg.
Jessie Buchin, English teacher at the high school, coordinates this program at WHS.
This is the third year the high school has participated.
