LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

STUDENT OF THE WEEK Omar Ahmed

Q: What grade are you in?

A: I am in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.

Q: What are your favorite subjects? Why?

A: My favorite subjects would have to be math and science. I have enjoyed learning new subjects like calculus and physics so much during my time in high school. I find it so interesting you can use math to predict things in the real world by using physics so that is probably why those two are my favorite subjects.

Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A: I have received the academic excellence award my first three years at Emmaus which is given to students who have a GPA above a 4.0. In addition, I have received an award for outstanding participation in computer science competitions also in my first three years, which is given to students. I have participated at many computer science competitions. I also received first place when I competed in the Trig Star Competition during my sophomore year and I was seventh place in the state. I have also received an award for having a perfect score in American Computer Science League twice during my years in high school.

Q: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

A: I am involved in activities such as the academic team, debate team, math league and computer science team. I also enjoy playing soccer in my free time.

Q: What is your next goal after high school?

A: My goal after high school would be to continue my studies in math and physics on the university level. Then, I would like to enter medical school and continue my studies to my ultimate goal of becoming a neurologist.

Q: What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?

A: My biggest challenge would probably be the rigor of the classes I have taken in high school because when I was in middle school I didn't really take many honors classes. So, it was pretty tough for me to adjust when I started taking honors and AP level classes but it was a pretty fun and exciting challenge.

Q: What do you want to be remembered for?

A: I guess I want to remembered for being a nice and hardworking person who always gave it their all.

Q: Who is in your family?

A: My parents are Hala and Yasser. My little brother's name is Ali.

Q: Do you have someone you look up to?

A: I don't really have anyone specific I look up to but I have had a lot of great teachers during my time in high school that have influenced me greatly. I can't really thank my teachers enough for everything they have done for me.

Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?

A: If I had to give advice to people starting high school, it would probably be to take it seriously. It might seem like college is still far away but these four years go by so fast it is really crucial you work hard. But, you should still try to have as much fun as possible by joining clubs and activities and going to school events. So, basically work hard but try having fun while you're doing it.
