Students at St. Ann Catholic School had a perfect day, Sept 26, for the school's 10th annual walkathon to raise funds for student activities.

Escorted by Emmaus Police Department K-9 police officer Craig Blose, students walked from their Sixth Street campus to the Rodale Park along 10th Street in the borough where they found cold drinks, fruit and snacks as they walked the laps around the park for which they had solicited sponsorship from friends, family and neighbors.

At the start of the walkathon, organizer Pam Fleck said the students had already reported pledges of more than $31,000 of this year's $32,000 goal. Fleck said she was confident the students would surpass their goal as they have done for many years.

After returning to the school, students were treated to hot dogs and lunch in the cafeteria and enjoyed a number of events on the campus.

Martial arts experts from Lehigh Valley Martial Arts, of Emmaus, demonstrated basic defensive maneuvers to the children, and they had games, face painting and other activities after lunch.

All-terrain vehicles and motorcycles were on display as well as mascots from Moravian College, the Emmaus Lions Club, the Big Red Barn cow and the Menchies yogurt store.

A special highlight was an assembly featuring African penguins from the Lehigh Valley Zoo.

A sound system provided music for the day, and family volunteers and chaperones were in abundance and enjoyed the activities with the children.
