STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Q. What grade are you currently in?

A. I am in 12th grade at Salisbury High School.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. History; I love to learn about the past and how humankind has evolved. I have a general fascination with the past, especially ancient history.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I am a Discus Runner Up Scholar, presidentially recognized for my community service, the East Villagers Service scholar of 2014 and a Bixbee Ambassador.

Q. What extracurricular activities are you involved in, both in and out of school?

A. In school, I am Model United Nations president and National Honor Society president, as well as an annual speaker in the Salisbury TedX event. Outside of school I pursue the musical arts with voice lessons and my YouTube channel Music by Makenna and I run a nonprofit focusing on the lesser known countries in Central America, titled Little Known Help Zone. Additionally, I am a member of Mensa and Mensa Honor Society.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. To hopefully attend Harvard and study archaeology.

Q. What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?

A. Learning to accept when things don't go perfectly.

Q. What do you want to be remembered for?

A. I want to be remembered for my hard work and dedication and also my efforts to help others.

Q. Who is in your family?

A. My dad, Kevin, my mom, Kimber, and my little sister, Ballen, who is six.

Q. Do you have someone you look up to?

A. My greatest inspiration and motivation is my parents. I look up to everything they do for me and their genuine nature and I hope to grow into the kind of people they are. They have taught me to be the best person I can be and to dream as high as I desire; if I try hard enough, nothing is too big.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. Find something you're passionate about and go for it. Your life is what you make of it, and rather than pleasing others, doing what you love will truly make it meaningful to you. Also, strive to give your best effort in everything you do and never quit.
