Soccer balls, soccer shirts and concession stand equipment are among items taken from a shed at a park in Lower Macungie Township over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Lindsay L. Taylor, executive director of the Lower Macungie Youth Association, also known as Lower Mac Athletics, described the break-in as "crude and rude."

"This is by far the worst yet," Taylor said in a telephone interview. Prior to the break-in at the shed, soccer balls and flags were taken from a large metal storage box near a soccer field in the park.

During the holiday weekend, someone entered a shed in Lower Macungie Township Community Park, or Creamery Park, along Spring Creek Road.

The park is home to multiple sports fields.

Taylor said the storage shed is remote, sitting far from access routes into the park.

The burglary came just before the fall playing season was set to start. Food and cooking equipment also was taken.

Soccer uniform shirts displaying players names and branded soccer balls are among the missing items.

Taylor said the burglars were selective and deliberate in what they took. However, many of the stolen items were personalized or otherwise distinctive.

"It is not equipment they can turn around and use," Taylor said.

Parents whose children play soccer in the LMYA program were notified soon after the burglary and the season was expected to continue as scheduled.

"We will get through this. We're not going to let it impact the program."

"It would be ideal if they realized they made a mistake and put the stuff in a pile in the park," Taylor said of those who took the equipment.
