Howard Cleveland Schaeffer, 88, of Macungie, died Sept. 19, 2014, at Liberty Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Allentown. He was the husband of Rowena B. (Thomas) Schaeffer. They were married for 38 years May 2. Born in Pikeville, he was a son of the late Norma (Nein) and Daniel Schaeffer.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Macungie.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a medic on the hospital ship Hope. He was a member of the Oley American Legion.

He was employed for 38 years by Acme Markets in the Berks County area as a meat cutter and department manager.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Diane and Kim; sons, Barry, Arlan, Brian, Lance, Robert; stepdaughter, Nanci Fenstermaker; stepsons, William and Timothy Bauer; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by siblings, Miriam, Edith, Eleanor, Oscar, Marvin, Stanley and Paul.

A Celebration of Life will be held 10:30 a.m. Sept. 26 at the Macungie Memorial Park, Macungie. Call 10 to 10:30 a.m.
