SALISBURY TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT

The operations committee of the Salisbury Township School District met for the new school year Sept. 8 in the administration building. Chairman Frank Frankenfield said the committee will meet in different locations during the school year to tour the various buildings.

Frankenfield also thanked Director of Maintenance, Buildings and Grounds William Brackett and his staff for the coordination of work completed over the summer.

"Our facilities look good. Thanks to the staff for all their hard work," Frankenfield said.

Business Administrator Robert Bruchak reported the district is awaiting PlanCon reimbursement from the Department of Education. Approximately $366,000 is owed to Salisbury as a result of work completed at the high school.

The reimbursement was held up due to a state mandated moratorium which has finally been lifted.

Bruchak will call the state and find out where Salisbury is in the payment order. He said Salisbury has been waiting for its money for three years.

Brackett reported the district will receive $1,367 in unused funds allocated to the administration building fire alarm replacement.

The middle school entrance is completed making this building totally secure. Brackett showed the board photos of the improved security doors and lobby.

The district has an agreement with the township to use the tennis courts at Lindberg Park, according to Superintendent Michael Roth. Further discussions will continue on maintaining the tennis courts at Lindberg Park and additional needs such as seating, bathrooms, electricity and lighting.

Brackett said the existing tennis courts at Salisbury Middle School are not suitable for matches which prompted the move to Lindberg Park. Brackett said if the district would like tennis courts, he would suggest moving the location and the cost would be approximately $1 million. Boys tennis utilizes the courts in spring and girls tennis is in the fall.

The existing courts at the middle school are safe for gym classes and residents to use; when and if they are deemed unsafe, Brackett will secure quotes for the removal of the courts.

Assistant Superintendent Randy Ziegenfuss discussed the Apple Authorized Service Provider Agreement. The service agreement was developed by by the solicitor. Salisbury will act as the repair site for Catasauqua, Oley Valley and Weatherly school districts, bringing additional revenue into the district. The board was assured the certified service technicians will be able to maintain the computer equipment at Salisbury as well as provide warranty and non-warranty repairs.

Chris Smith will manage the Apple service, overseeing the four certified technicians.

Board member Sam DeFrank asked for an estimate of expected revenue from repairs. Ziegenfuss will provide the information to the board.

Bruchak reported Paragon Transit has begun parking buses and vans in the unused lot at Harry S Truman Elementary School. Paragon repaved the area and painted lines. Both the district and Paragon Transit are pleased with the additional parking spaces as it leaves the regular parking lot available to parents and visitors.

The next meeting of the operations committee is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 6.
