Weisenberg supervisors adopt speed limit changes

Weisenberg Township supervisors were asked at their Sept. 8 meeting to grant a waiver for the Morgan Hills II subdivision.

Lou Rauch of Lehigh Engineering, representing developer Lloyd Roberts, requested a waiver to have a 1,000 foot cul-de-sac in the subdivision.

Township ordinance only allows a 500-foot length for any cul-de-sac.

There are 11 lots on the cul-de-sac in the subdivision proposed for Wertman Road.

After some discussion, the board rejected the applicants request.

Supervisors also adopted two ordinances. The first set the speed limit on a portion of Mohr Lane at 35 mph. The speed limit is now consistent with the rest of the road.

The second ordinance establishes the speed limit on Bausch Road at 30 mph. This will coincide with the speed limit in Lynn Township.

The speed limits are only for the portion of the roads in Weisenberg Township.

Supervisors also adopted a resolution allowing insurance coverage for firefighters while on extra activities.

Any injury on a non-fire related event would be covered by Workmen's Compensation.

The fire report through Sept. 8 indicated the fire department has responded to 164 calls. The total for 2013 and 2012 was only 159 for each year.

The board allotted the annual donations to the local service organizations.

Northwestern and and Cetronia ambulance corps will each receive $2,500.

The New Tripoli Fire Company and the Northwestern Recreation Association will each receive $5,000.

New Tripoli's money will be used toward the rescue truck. The Christ's Church at Lowhill Food Pantry will receive $2,000 while the Weisenberg Lowhill Historical Society will be given $10,000.

The board set Trick or Treat Night for 6-8 p.m. Oct. 25. No rain or snow date was set.

The trees donated last month were planted at the township park at 9504 Bachelor Road.

A total of 17 trees were planted.
