The fourth annual Laurys Station Community Day will take place 2 p.m. Sept. 20. The event will end with fireworks in the evening.

Activities take place at the Laurys Station Fire Company and adjacent North Whitehall Township fields.

A variety of foods, games and displays will appeal to people of all ages.

There will be an antique and classic car show and an opportunity to donate blood to the Miller-Keystone Blood Center.

Entertainment will be provided by DJ Dave D and also The Deadliners.

Foods to look forward to include roasted corn-on-the-cob, baked potatoes, funny cakes, shoofly pies and pumpkin bread.

St. John's United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, is hosting the event.

Enjoy a chicken barbecue 4-6:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at St. John's UCC. Take-out available until 7 p.m.

A children's meal featuring two drumsticks, macaroni and cheese, applesauce and a cookie will be provided.

Union Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, will celebrate rally daySept. 14 with guest speaker Grace Duddy during the 8 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. worship services.

Duddy, executive director of Kairos, a Christian resource development company, focuses on ways congregations can engage adults under age 40 on their life journey.

Children's Sunday School inaugurates a new season with a gathering in the Family Life Center at 9:15 a.m.

Northern Valley EMS is taking orders for fresh baked shoofly pies. Pick up is Sept. 21 and 22.

Registration is being accepted for the second annual Parkland Field Hockey Golf Tournament 8:30 a.m. Oct. 19 at Willowbrook Golf Course, Catasauqua.

At 2 p.m. there will be a cookout and distribution of prizes.

Organized by the field hockey booster club, the event is a fundraiser for the Parkland High School team.

The Schnecksville Fire Company will have a flea market in the pavilion from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.Sept. 21.

Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, will celebrate Pastor Thomas Thomas' love of African music and culture with a performance by Bi-Okoto at the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. worship services Sept. 21.

A professional African dance company from Cincinatti, Ohio, Bi-Okoto embraces cultural and spiritual similarities through music and dance from West and South African countries.

Pastor Thomas, who moved to Africa in 1978, served as chaplain of a secondary school and pastor of congegations in Kafue and Lusaka, Zambia.

While there, he met and married Katherine Brearley, a math teacher and church worker from Britain, who also became a UCC pastor in this area.
