Motorcyclist dies in Route 873 Mountain Road crash

The Lehigh County Coroner's Office says a South Whitehall Township man was killed Sept. 9 when his motorcycle collided with a tractor trailer at the intersection of Route 873 and Mountain Road, Slatington.

Alfred M. Kotsch, 78, of Colonial Court, South Whitehall, was pronounced dead at 4:18 p.m. at the scene by Deputy Coroner Jason Nicholas.

State Police Troop M Bethlehem say Kotsch was operating a 2000 Honda Rebel north on Route 873, attempting to turn left onto Mountain Road as the driver of a 2013 Peterbilt truck tractor was southbound on Route 873, turning right onto Mountain Road.

Police say the right side of the motorcycle struck the left rear axle of the Peterbilt.

After impact, the motorcycle slid under the trailer and the rear axle struck Kotsch.

Kotsch's cause of death was multiple traumatic injuries due to a motor vehicle accident.

The coroner's office says the manner of his death was ruled an accident.
