Heidelberg board OKs parade route for Goodwill Fire Company's 100th

Heidelberg supervisors began the Aug. 21 meeting by congratulating everyone involved in this year's Night in the Country celebration Aug. 16 at the Northwestern Recreation Commission Community Park.

In the spirit of celebration, supervisors approved the proposed parade route for Goodwill Fire Company's 100th anniversary parade July 11, 2015.

The parade is scheduled to start 2 p.m. in the Northwestern Lehigh High School parking lot.

The parade will affect Northwest, Hunters Hill, Central, Heil and Memorial roads.

Following the parade, which ends in the fire company parking lot, 6011 Memorial Road, Germansville a 75-minute ceremony will commemorate Goodwill's 100 years of service to the Heidelberg community.

Committee Chairman Randy Metzger said he is planning to have a band, food and refreshments 6:30-9 p.m. and end the night with fireworks.

In other matters, Roadmaster Kevin Huber reported all bridge repairs to Mantz and Buckery roads are completed.

Huber asked supervisors about installing signs at the bridges to limit the number of heavy loads transported over the bridges in an effort to preserve the repairs.

Supervisor Steve Bachman made a motion to post "no trucks except for local deliveries" signs at Buckery and Mantz road bridges. Huber also reported crews are finished oil and chipping, but are still sweeping loose stone and preparing roads for line painting.

He asked supervisors to consider using two coats of line paint to extend the life of the double yellow line. He said 60 percent of the paint is absorbed into the road. Huber also said road crews have completed one-third of the township's shoulder mowing. Crews are getting ready for tree trimming.

Since removing the dilapidated bridge at Werleys Corner Road, the route no longer connects to Route 100 and is no longer considered a road. Supervisors said they are accepting suggestions for renaming Werleys Corner at next month's meeting.

Charlie Perich, representing the Environmental Advisory Council, asked supervisors to repair the fence behind the municipal building that protects the riparian buffer area around the section of Jordan Creek.

Bachman asked Huber if he could inspect the chain link fence for repairs.

Supervisors reviewed a draft of the proposed amusement tax ordinance to impose a fee upon the sales of admission to amusement events.

An amusement event is considered to be "all manner and forms of entertainment including theatrical performances, concerts, carnivals, physical events, and all other forms of sport recreation, shows, exhibitions, contests and games, except school events, non-profit events and township events.
