Deitsch Eck cooks chicken pot pie for Cheyenne

Steve Stetzler, owner and chef at The Deitsch Eck Restaurant, Len-hartsville, recently sponsored a chicken pot pie fundraiser, Chinese auction and bake sale to raise money to help the familyof Cheyanne Stoudt of Upper Bern Township.

Cheyanne, 10, has nonketotic hyperglycinemia, a rare genetic disorder.

Children with this metabolic disorder, most of whom die within weeks of birth, cannot properly break down the amino acid glycine, which accumulates in the body, disrupts the brain, causing seizures and brain damage.

There are less than 500 children living with the disease worldwide.

Cheyanne, who functions at the level of a 6-month-old, is only one of two children in Pennsylvania to have the disorder.

Her mother, Billie Jean Adam-Stoudt said everything with the words "special needs" attached to it is very expensive.

Her car seat was $900, and a standing machine bought a couple of years ago had a $2,500 balance even after insurance.

Cheyanne weighs 55 pounds so Billie Jean and her husband Larry are looking to renovate part of their house for a new bedroom and bathroom for Cheyenne.

A van is the biggest necessity, as two people are needed to lift her wheelchair into their current vehicle.
