Ziegels Church Road homes lose power
Several homes in the area of Ziegels Church Road, Breinigsville, lost power and the roadway was closed for several hours after Patrick Taylor Jr., 18, of Allentown, apparently lost control of his vehicle and knocked down a utility pole just after 5 a.m. July 24 in the 1000 block.
According to an affidavit of probable cause obtained from the office of District Judge Michael Faulkner, Taylor was arrested after he allegedly stole a car and crashed it into the PPL pole in Upper Macungie Township.
The affidavit stated a couple reported 5:10 a.m. that day their keys and their 2009 Hyundai Elantra were stolen while they were sleeping in their home in the 10000 block of Cormorant Drive, Upper Macungie.
Detective Eric Brenner of the Lehigh County Auto Theft Task Force states in the affidavit, while Upper Macungie police were taking the stolen vehicle report from the couple, they received numerous calls of a car hitting a PPL pole at 10446 Ziegels Church Road.
Officers found the stolen Hyundai with heavy damage under the broken pole.
Brenner states Police Officer Dathan Schlegel, while responding to the crash, allegedly saw Taylor walking away from the crash with what appeared to be injuries to his head, which was wrapped in white fabric.
Officers looked for Taylor, but he ran and was not located at the time.
While at the crash scene, officers found a woman looking for her boyfriend, whom she allegedly identified as Taylor.
A K-9 search led police to the 9900 block of Newtown Road, Upper Macungie.
According to the affidavit, while officers and K-9 were in the area on Newtown Road, a woman flagged them down just after 6 a.m. to say her 2009 Chevy Malibu was just stolen.
Brenner went to a home in the 100 block of W. Linden Street, Allentown, the last known address for Taylor.
He detained Taylor, who reportedly had facial injuries consistent with the crash and airbag deployment.
According to the affidavit, a consent search of Taylor's bedroom was conducted and a used marijuana pipe, grinder and scale were allegedly found.
Brenner states the stolen Chevy was found in a parking lot behind Taylor's home.
According to Lehigh County criminal records, Taylor was charged with two counts each of theft, receiving stolen property and unauthorized use of an automobile.
He was also charged with one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia and having an accident involving damage to an unattended vehicle or property.
Taylor was arraigned July 24 before District Judge Robert C. Halal, Whitehall Township.
He was remanded to Lehigh County Prison in lieu of $100,000 monetary bail.
