KUTZTOWN UNIVERSITY

Area student nominated for state award

Brittaney Eshbach, of Allentown, a history major with minors in mathematics and political science, was nominated to receive the 2014 Syed R. Ali-Zaidi Award for Academic Excellence.

Each of the 14 Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education universities nominates one student to receive the award, which was established by Syed R. Ali-Zaidi, a founding member of the PASSHE Board of Governors.

To be nominated for this award, students must demonstrate outstanding academic performance in the academic major and in other areas of study; scholarly activities; and participation in extracurricular activities.

Esbach recently graduated with a 4.0 grade point average. She is a member of the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society and presented her research on the siege of Vicksburg at the Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference.

Eshbach also is a member of the Kutztown University Honors Program; the Phi Kappa Phi All Discipline Honor Society; and was recently inducted into the Pennsylvania Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Mu Epsilon, the national honorary mathematics society.

Eshbach was a student worker for the Provost's Office and a supplemental instructor for an algebra course. Eshbach held several leadership positions and served on the executive board and community service committee of the Honor's Club. She volunteered with the American Cancer Society; KUBoK Neighborhood Watch; and at Honor's Club sponsored events to assist the Berks Women in Crisis Center, the Salvation Army and Holiday Cards for the Elderly.

Eshbach is the recipient of the Bright and Lucille Beck Award in American History; the Russell C. Trexler '31 and Stella V. Trexler '30 Memorial Scholarship; and the Margie O'Hern Scholarship.

After graduation, Eshbach will enroll in the Pennsylvania State University Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle.
