The menu features turkey and ham barbecues, hamburgers, cheese burgers, hot dogs, french fries, homemade desserts and ice cream. In case of rain, the picnic will be 1-4 p.m. Aug 10.

Harvest Home

Donations of non-perishable food items will be appreciated. Donations can be made any Sunday and will benefit Christ's Church at Lowhill Food Pantry.

A helping hand

The food pantry, 4695 Lowhill Church Road, will be accepting donations and volunteers to stock shelves 9-11 a.m. Aug. 19 and 30. Donations can also be made by appointment by calling 610-298-2054 or Nancy Holbrook at 610-674-2440.

Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Barbara Kistler at lowhillfoodpantry@gmail.com.

Local farmers and garden enthusiasts with a surplus of fresh fruit and vegetables are encouraged to donate as long as the items are in good condition.

The pantry is currently seeking the following items for donation: cereal, canned tuna fish, jelly, peanut butter, tea bags, coffee, bathroom cleaner, kitchen cleaner, toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, dish soap and laundry detergent.

Monetary donations are used for purchasing milk, eggs and meat.

Felines and fidos are family, too. The pantry welcomes canned and bagged dog and cat food to help struggling families dealing with the decision of whether they can afford to keep their furry friends.

The food pantry serves qualifying families in Heidelberg, Lowhill, Lynn, and Weisenberg townships 9-11 a.m. on the first Saturday of the month and 4-6:30 p.m. the third Thursday of the month. Senior citizens are served 10 a.m.-noon the prior Wednesday.

Got Socks?

In anticipation for the 2014-15 school year, the Blessing Shop at the food pantry is accepting new socks in youth sizes. Socks can be dropped off at both New Tripoli Banks and ESSA Bank for the Blessing Shop's collection of new and nearly new clothing located in the basement of the food pantry. Families that qualify for food items in the pantry are also welcomed to select from the new and gently used clothing, toys and household items donated in the shop.

Anyone interested in donating to the Blessing Shop may call Bev Moyer at 610-298-3066
