Lynn Township board deals with land issues

During the public comment part of the Lynn Township July 10 meeting, Nikola Moreno, of Jefferson Court, told the board there is a large piece of land in the middle of the New Tripoli townhouse complex that is being neglected.

She asked the board if there was any help the township could offer.

"The grass is high," Moreno said. "Who could be hiding in the bushes?

"There is one well next to the field and there may be poop and rodents there."

Moreno alleged foreclosure on the field could be a possibility.

Township Solicitor Marc Fisher told the board the property could be purchased at a good price.

Supervisor Brian Dietrich said the township should buy it for a dollar.

"Let's get rid of the weed ordinance, if we are not going to enforce it," he said.

Supervisor Justin Smith said if the township does nothing, it has no responsibility.

Resident George Cameron said they have responsibility but admitted the township cannot maintain property it does not own.

Dietrich said the situation concerns the safety and welfare of residents, which falls under the jurisdiction of supervisors.

Smith said he was not ready to take on this situation, but will go and look at the site.

Cameron is concerned with what he terms "catastrophic issues" at Ponderosa Court.

He said a road, which runs down a valley between two hills, funnels water into homes.

Cameron said he has requested to see records concerning the problem.

The home most affected belongs to Sonia Helzer, who also spoke.

Smith said the issue was discussed at the June meeting.

Kathy Hermany said the request was for all the roads in Kempton, not just Ponderosa Court.

Roadmaster Bruce Raber had been out to look at the road.

He said he could fill up the edges of the road but the water still needs a place to go.

Cameron asked to have the engineer check it.

Supervisor Brian Dietrich said it should be a soil conservation problem.

Smith said the item would be on the August supervisors' agenda.
