Lions welcome new members, award scholarships

Upper Lehigh Lions Club welcomed new members John and Marion Krisko at its recent meeting at the Schnecksville Grange.

"John and Marion formerly lived in New Ringgold before moving to Schnecksville," Larry Snyder said. "They owned an insurance business in Allentown and are now retired.

"They are outgoing individuals and like good conversation. We are extremely proud you have accepted membership in the Upper Lehigh Lions Club."

Snyder said one of the highlights of the club's year is the induction of new members.

"New members bring new life to a club," Snyder said. "New members bring additional talents, news ideas, new friendships and additional help for club projects, which enables the club to provide more for the community and Lions International."

The Upper Lehigh Lions Club is one of 37 within Pennsylvania Lions District 14-K, which encompasses Lehigh and Northampton counties.

In addition to welcoming two new members, the club awarded scholarships to 4-H members Adam Dietrich of Lynn Township and Madison Olexson of Effort.

Adam, the son of Brian and Faye Dietrich, has been a member in the Dairy and Beef and Dairy Beef 4-H clubs for 10 years.

He is the president of the Dairy Club and has held several other offices over the years.

A recent graduate of Northwestern Lehigh High School, he plans on attending Lehigh Carbon Community College in the fall.

Madison, the daughter of Michelle Olexson, has been a 4-H member for five years.

A member of the Veterinary Sciences 4-H Club, she is serving her third year as president.

Madison, a 4-H member on the Lehigh County Penn State Extension Board, is a junior at Pleasant Valley High School.

Kelly Weisner, 4-H coordinator for Lehigh County, thanked the Lions for honoring Dietrich and Olexson.

"Both of the teens we are recognizing this year are very active, dedicated, honorable young adults," she said. "4-H is a community of young people across America learning leadership, citizenship and life skills by using a variety of 4-H projects.

"The generosity of the Upper Lehigh Lions Club is very much appreciated."
