Lowhill to check on possible road damage from Dirty Girl Mud Run

In preparation for the Dirty Girl 5K Mud Run July 12, Roadmaster Carl Kressley told Lowhill supervisors July 3 he plans to inspect the condition of Schierer's and Browning roads before and after the two-day run to see if any damage was caused by the estimated 2,500 cars due to navigate the roads for the event.

A $5,000 escrow account was created to pay for any potential repairs.

Chairman Richard Hughes said he does not want any money coming from the taxpayers' pockets. Any unused funds will be returned following a final inspection.

Zoners are scheduled to meet July 15 to discuss a special exception for Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 to host an event at Gregory and Rene Snyder's property at 2881 Tycolia Court, Orefield.

In other matters, supervisors agreed to use the $1,167.97 settlement from the Lehigh County Authority to credit the township's account with the sewage treatment plant.

An assessment of the estimated treatment costs for suburban and rural customers revealed an overage in charges from 2009 to 2013.

With only 43 properties hooked up to public sewer, the amount awarded to Lowhill was one of the smaller credits.

Lower Macungie Township is due to receive $53,552 in refunds.

Harold Handwerk asked supervisors for specifications on signage for Leisure Court, which accesses the five newly subdivided lots of North Lane Estates.

Hughes told Handwerk a "stop" sign will be needed to complete requirements for traffic control devices for the development.

Supervisors approved the final annexation plan to adjust the property lines for Richard and Kenneth Divers' 32-acre farm at 2439 Weidasville and 3350 Highland Roads, Orefield.

Vice Chairman George Wessner Jr. made a motion to accept the resolution to remove the late Frank Dengler's name as a trustee of the township's non-uniformed pension plan.

A supervisor for 40 years, Dengler died Feb. 22, 2014. Chairman Richard Hughes takes Dengler's place as trustee.

Kressley agreed with the resolution to establish a $20 per hour rental fee for the four townships to use a shared road roller for paving.

He also said crews will help Lynn Township with more oil and chipping during the last week of July.

Wessner will meet with the roadmaster to decide what to do about an ominous stump growing out of the shoulder of Bausch Road.

He said it is not in the township's best interest to dump a lot of money into removing all the roots of the stump as the road is so lightly traveled.

He and Kressley will decide whether removing the stump and patching the hole is adequate.

Hughes invited all township employees to attend the Lehigh County Association of Township Officials Convention on Aug. 1 at the Schnecksville Fire Company.
