The CSG Falcon White soccer team, which is the Salisbury High School girls summer teams in Group A of the Lehigh Valley Summer Soccer League (LVSSL), wrapped up its regular season on Monday night and heads into the playoffs as the group's top team.

Despite coming up short against Tribe United Gold (Upper Perk) on Monday, 3-2 in overtime at Lehigh University Fields and Goodman Campus, the Lady Falcons (5-2-2) face Group B's No. 8 seed when the playoffs begin on Wednesday.

For a team that is composed of all young players, the Lady Falcons have certainly been impressive since the opening week.

"This is a really young squad," coach Victor DeOliveira said. "I don't have anybody above this year's freshman class on this team. I'm really proud of the way they played for being so young."

Following an early goal from Tribe United Gold, Katie Hoeing redirected a Lady Falcon pass into the left side of the net to tie the game 1-1 beyond the midway point of the first half.

Tribe United Gold opened up the second half with another early score, but Riley Donaldson's rip into the back of the net after Tribe's goalkeeper came out for the save knotted it back up.

In the final minutes, a deep Tribe shot was on target and just off goalkeeper Katie Gilligan's hands.

"This Upper Perk team is one of the better teams in the league," DeOliveira said. "We had to knock them out and drag them out the first time when we won 2-1. And now they won 3-2 in overtime."

The Lady Falcons' defense has been impressive all season. Heading into Monday's game, their six goals against were the lowest in the division.

The team's duo of Kyra Bruns (two saves) and Gilligan (six saves) has been solid all season and anchor the defensive line. Bruns, along with Marisol Rosario and Haley Szita are also a few of the names on their defensive line.

"We've played really solid defense," DeOliveira said. "Our goalkeeping has been very good between this one [Bruns], and the young girl that was in there now is an eighth grader. And she just saved a penalty kick."

The Lady Falcons will play on Wednesday at 6 p.m. on Field 8. Their opponent has yet to be determined. The other Salisbury High School girls team playing in the LVSSL, CSG Falcon Blue, is set for a berth into the playoffs as well.

"We're going to need to ramp up our scoring," DeOliveira said. "I don't really have a proven goal-scorer on this particular squad. We've kind of been getting goals by committee. And that works too. I'm okay with that, but we need to score a little bit more."

On the boys' side, CSG Falcons downed Pen Argyl, 7-1, to improve to 6-3 on the season. With Wednesday's game against Freedom wrapping up the regular season, the Falcons are looking to continue their consistent ball movement as the postseason approaches.

"We were just moving the ball, and we were finishing well," Zach Adams, who scored the Falcons' final goal, said.

Zach's brother, Patrick Adams, netted three goals against Pen Argyl on Monday. Connor Wagner tallied two scores.

"We just have to continue to play together as a team and move the ball around," Patrick Adams said as the Falcons prepare for the playoffs.

Wednesday's game against Freedom is at 7:15 p.m. on Field 6. The boys' playoffs begin next Monday, July 14.
