Mix it up! Hooks of Hope, a chapter of Crochet for Cancer, is looking for donations of yarn, knitted or crocheted items such as baby caps and blankets, afghans and lap robes to give to children's hospitals and chemotherapy patients.

Call Heidelberg Church member Barbara Weaver at 610-767-3068 to arrange a pickup, if needed, of any donated materials.

All are welcome! Immediately following the 11 a.m. church service, Heidelberg United Church of Christ has a friendship hour on the porch Sundays during the summer.

Everyone is invited to come out, sit a spell on the porch and enjoy a lovely time of fellowship and food.

To host this gathering or bake a little something to share, place your name on the sign-up sheet in the narthex.

Well worth it! According to Heidelberg Church Soup Kitchen Assistant Coordinator Linda Hausamann, 200 hot meals were served recently to the hungry and homeless at the Allentown Soup Kitchen.

The meal consisted of baked chicken, potatoes, tossed salad, desserts, and a special treat of ice-cream with toppings.

Special thanks to the volunteers of the day: Shirley Boger, Marie Kistler, Julia and Arlan Hill, Eleanor and Ron Klevenhagen, Linda Hausamann, Howard Truitt and Dawn and Ed Fisher.

"This is a rewarding experience to help the less fortunate. During the summer months we have many more children," says Linda.

To those of you who are interested in helping at the soup kitchen, the upcoming serving dates are July 8 and Aug. 12.

Any questions, call Linda at 610-767-5281 or Howard at 610-682-4831.
