on dean's list

Amanda Rosenfeld, of Allentown, was named to the fall 2013 and spring 2014 dean's lists at Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, N.C.

Students must achieve at least a 3.4 grade-point average to be awarded the honor.

New Tripoli

student honored

Patrick Strobel was named to the dean's list for the fall 2013 and spring 2014 semesters at the University of Vermont.

Strobel, of New Tripoli, is a first year anthropology major in the College of Arts and Sciences.

To be named to the dean's list, students must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or better and rank in the top 20 percent of their class in their respective college or school.

Receive Degrees

Suzanne Y. Zhou of Orefield was named to the dean's list at Boston University for the 2013 fall semester.

Each school and college at Boston University has their own criterion for the dean's list, but students must attain a 3.5 grade-point average, or be in the top 30 percent of their class, as well as complete a full course load as a full time student to receive the award.

In addition, Allentown residents Lydia M. Barski and Rebecca A. Matta; and Suzanne Y. Zhou, of Orefield, were named to the dean's list for the 2014 spring semester.

May 2014 graduates from Allentown include:Steven D. Melnic, Doctor of Dental Medicine in dentistry, magna cum laude; Michael G. Tom, Bachelor of Science in communication; Patrick M. Mucka, Master of Arts in medical science.

receive honors

The following local students were named to the 2013 fall dean's list for Bucknell University.

Allentown: Erin Korp, daughter of Robert and Kathleen Korp; Joseph Lundeen, son of Edward and Christine Lundeen; Jeffrey Miller, son of Steven and Anne-Renee Miller; Erica Shartle, daughter of Gary and Deborah Shartle;

Kutztown: Dylan Cowell, son of Bradley and Kim Cowell; Kelsey Mucelli, daughter of Richard and Christine Mucelli;

Fogelsville: Kathleen Hickes, daughter of Scott and Mary Ellen Hickes; Nicholas Tacca, son of John and Rebecca Tacca;

Orefield: David Strauss, son of Steven and Julia Strauss.

The following students were named to the spring 2014 dean's list:

Allentown: Stacey Carpency, daughter of Theresa and David Carpency; Erin Korp, Joseph Lundeen, Jeffrey Miller and Kelsey Mucelli;

Kutztown: Dylan Cowell;

New Tripoli: Michael Hontz, son of Michael and Mary Hontz.

A student must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0 to receive the dean's list recognition.

In addition, Bucknell University had commencement ceremonies May 18.

Degrees were awarded for studies in liberal arts and professional programs in engineering, education, management and music.

Julie Fraenkel of Allentown, daughter of Barnet and Lisa Fraenkel, and a 2009 graduate of Moravian Academy, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in business administration in management.

Winnie Ouma of Allentown, daughter of Esther Ouma and Daniel Nyamwanga Ouma, and a 2010 graduate of Whitehall High School, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology.

Nicholas Tacca of Fogelsville, son of John and Rebecca Tacca, and a 2010 graduate of Parkland High School, graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering.

Tacca is a member of Tau Beta Pi national engineering honor society and Mortar Board national college senior honor society..

Law student

earns degree

Katherine Riggleman-Thomas of Kutztown received her Juris Doctor degree from Widener University School of Law Harrisburg, May 18 in a ceremony at The Forum, in the Harrisburg Capitol Complex.

She was also named to the fall 2013 dean's list at Widener University School of Law.

Students named to the dean's list earned a grade-point average in the top 20 percent of their class and division for the semester while pursuing Juris Doctor degrees.
