Breinigsville celebrating 30th fireworks spectacular

Community members are invited to gather family and friends for the 30th anniversary of Schmoyer Funeral Home's Independence Day Fireworks Spectacular dusk July 5 in Earl Adams Memorial Park, 8935 Breinigsville Road. Rain date is July 6.

"This is the 11th year in the Breinigsville Park," Carl Schmoyer III told The Press.

Schmoyer will be using the same computerized firing system as last year with the fireworks synchronized to music.

Discussion of the show design, which began in January, was completed several weeks ago, Schmoyer said.

"John Kemps, owner of Celebration Fireworks has hired Chris Hopkins, a professional pyromusical designer who was instrumental in assisting to create the show, Schmoyer said. "Chris has designed a number of shows I would consider 'world class' and we are bringing that talent to Breinigsville in 2014.

"Our Breinigsville show this year should truly be spectacular."

Schmoyer said this year's show is the longest ever.

"The show will be 40 minutes long, saluting the 200th anniversary of the composition of Francis Scott Key's poem, "The Defense of Fort McHenry," which eventually became our national anthem, 'The Star Spangled Banner,'" Schmoyer said. "A 'Fire One' digital firing system will fire the performance synchronized to the soundtrack."

"The grand finale will be the largest ever with some real surprises," Schmoyer said. "There will be more than 1,000 shells fired in the last 60 seconds of the grand finale."

The fireworks include: blood-red to white peony with big blue pistil, multicolor peony in nishiki kamuro circle with four spangle tails, purple ghost peony with green pistil, red sunflower with three strobing tails, red, white and blue dahlia mines, nishiki kamuro niagara falls with red pistil and many others.

Schmoyer said there will be new fireworks purchased by Kemps in China.

"I accompanied John Kemps to China this past September for the second time on his annual fireworks purchasing trip," Schmoyer said. "Again it was an incredible experience and even better the second time around.

"It is such a pleasure to work with somebody like John who has incredible knowledge regarding pyrotechnics."

The Municipal Band of Allentown will perform from 7:15-8:30 p.m. and there will be an old-fashioned patriotic sing-along at 8:30 p.m.

Emmaus WTAP television personality Uncle Jeffrey will broadcast the show live at 3 p.m.

Steve Oplinger from Macungie will sing the national anthem.

Good Will Fire Company, Trexlertown, will bring a ladder truck with the 22-foot by 48-foot American flag Schmoyer purchased several years ago suspended from the ladder.

Before the fireworks begin, a presentation on the creation of The Declaration of Independence will be presented along with a reading of the 56 signers.

"These men mutually pledged to each other, their lives, fortunes and sacred honor," Schmoyer said. "As long as I am involved in this celebration, we can pause a few minutes to hear the names of our founding fathers."

Twelve Lampare shells, flaming balls, have also been choreographed into the show and the Chinese Sky Lanterns will again be used.

"They have been an unexpected big hit with the crowd," Schmoyer said. "Patriotic music and readings will be used during the release." Schmoyer said Upper Macungie Township Fire Commissioner Grant Grim and key employees at the municipality have assured them the park will be ready for the crowd.

Members of Good Will Fire Company, No. 1, Trexlertown, along with approximately 15 crew members from Celebration Fireworks began setup July 1.

Several volunteers from Gary and Linda Gorr's family will help with tear down and cleanup after the show.

Retired Fire Chief Forrest Hausman and current Trexlertown Fire Police Capt. Calvin Fetherolf will handle traffic, parking and security.

Assistant Fire Chief Roger Conrad, Trexlertown, will handle safety and neighboring fire companies will stand by as well.

Entertainment Services Group, Trexlertown, will be assisting the sound and lighting system and the Dietrich family from Four Seasons Garden Center will be providing sand bags.

Robert M. Fegely VFW Post 8282, Breinigsville, will man the concession stand at the park.

"We should take one day out of the year to acknowledge what our forefathers enacted for us," said Schmoyer.
