Walnutport teen charged with fatal North Whitehall crash

According to information provided by the office of Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin, a 19-year-old Walnutport woman has been charged with homicide by vehicle and other offenses in a North Whitehall Township crash that killed a 65-year-old woman, also from Walnutport.

Courtney Alexis Quinn, of 4411 Katlyn Drive, Walnutport, was charged on June 23, with one count each of homicide by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter, two counts of recklessly endangering another person, and summary offenses of crossing into another lane, driving at an unsafe speed and careless and reckless driving.

She was arraigned at Lehigh County Central Booking by Magisterial District Judge Jake Hammond, South Whitehall.

Quinn was released on $50,000 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for 9:45 a.m. July 15 in Hammond's office.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by State Police Troop M Bethlehem, at approximately 8:42 a.m. April 12, a trooper responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries on Route 145, north of Clearview Road, North Whitehall Township.

A vehicle driven by Quinn was northbound on Route 145 when it crossed into the southbound lane and struck a vehicle driven by Jennifer Ebert.

Both Quinn and Ebert had serious injuries and were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

A juvenile in Ebert's vehicle also was taken to the hospital.

Ebert was pronounced dead at 2:15 p.m. An autopsy determined she died of multiple blunt force injuries as a result of the collision.

A trooper at the scene saw the speedometer on Quinn's vehicle stopped over a speed of 70 mph.

The posted speed limit is 55 mph at that location.

The trooper said there were no adverse road conditions at the time of the crash.

A post-crash inspection determined there were no mechanical defects that could have caused the crash.

The investigation determined there was no pre-impact roadway evidence to indicate Quinn's vehicle braked or attempted to avoid the crash.
