Lynn Twp man charged with firing gun at house

A 45-year-old Lynn Township man was charged with firing a shotgun several times at his home at 7166 Route 309 on June 22 while his girlfriend and her children where inside.

According to an affidavit of probable cause obtained June 24 from the office of District Judge Rod Beck, Slatington, State Trooper Steven Furlong said at approximately 10:42 p.m. Sunday a woman called the State Police Troop M, Fogels-ville, barracks to report a domestic dispute.

Furlong states the woman said her boy-friend, Jeffrey T. Utsch, was intoxicated and they had argued.

According to the affidavit, Utsch allegedly spit on her, punched a window and struck her in the leg and back with a wooden cabinet before walking outside, getting a shotgun and firing several shots at the home.

The woman told troopers she heard Utsch shoot four times and heard the house being struck.

Furlong states upon arrival, Utsch could not be located and the woman and the remaining residents were evacuted from the home.

The trooper saw a broken window on the south side of the home and a window was broken on an exterior kitchen door on the west side of the home.

Utsch called state police at the Fogelsville barracks several times, the affidavit states.

Furlong spoke with Utsch by telephone at approximately 1:15 a.m. June 23 and Utsch allegedly admitted he shot at the house and had shattered the window.

Utsch returned to the house at approximately 2:35 a.m. that day and surrendered to troopers.

According to Lehigh County court records, Utsch was charged with one count each for discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and harassment.

He was arraigned at 8:14 a.m. June 23 before District Judge Michael D'Amore, Allentown.

Utsch was released from Lehigh County Prison after posting $60,000 bail.
