Board donates to fire company

Secretary JoAnn Ahner said at the June 3 Washington Township supervisors' meeting she had received financial records for 2013 from Citizens Fire Company, Slatedale.

The fire company was then given the annual $5,000, and $15,000 for the truck fund, and $10,000 per an agreement to be donated for 10 years.

In other matters, William Jones' Trumbull Corporation minor subdivision received preliminary final approval based on Engineer Roy Stewart's comments being met.

Solicitor John Ashley said Trumbull Corporation, the company working on the Pa. Turnpike bridge, wants to remove dirt and add waste such as broken rock, crushed asphalt and concrete.

When the project is finished, the company would have no responsibility if damage occurs such as leaching into the water table.

The board gave approval to the plan.

Additions to the Ag Security Area include Don Bruenig Jr. with parcels of 10.7965 and 12.1237 acres and Charles and Dan Bachman with 12.8395 acres. They were accepted.

Pennsylvania Winter Services was awarded the bid for maintaining uncared for properties at $35 an hour.

Delinquent street light and fire hydrant taxes will be turned over to have liens placed on them.

Dennis Scholtis said fire chiefs and fire marshals should update the burning ordinance.

Firefighters and fire police should be sworn in every two years and be given an identification card.

They should have a list of doctors they can visit for workmen's compensation issues.

Supervisor Josh Friebolin said supervisors should discuss it more before making a decision.

Ahner said although she asks for lists of fire company members each year, she sometimes does not receive them.

Scholtis said the list should be turned in before the firefighters and fire police are sworn in.

St. Peter's Church received a letter denying no parking signs near the entrance to the parking lot.

Troy Markell had asked for no parking on either side of the driveway to a lot with handicapped parking. He said the handicapped signs have been removed.

In addition to the ministry, the church does food donations and vehicles need to be moved to bring in a pickup truck. The church is growing and its principal use is no longer as a church.

"We're helping the community," Markell said.

Friebolin said neighbors of the church tell him it is a public street and they can park there.

Stewart said a church is a public entity and has to have one entrance and one exit.

Markell said he called state police who said they did not have jurisdiction, it was a township problem.

Friebolin said they are not going to take away two parking spots on the street.
