Hazmat alert brings first responders to LVHN-Cedar Crest incident

By JIM MARSH

Special to the Press

First responders from Western Salisbury Fire Department and the Lehigh County Special Operations unit were called to Lehigh Valley Health Network - Cedar Crest shortly before 1 p.m. May 29 when two individuals drove to the hospital emergency room on their own after being exposed to an unknown substance.

The two were decontaminated prior to entering the hospital and the vehicle was isolated from the main hospital campus.

A hazmat team, dressed in biological/chemical hazard protection gear, performed routine field tests on the vehicle the two individuals arrived in and determined the substance appeared to be non-hazardous.

Salisbury Township Police are continuing to investigate.

Hospital services were not interrupted during the incident, which was declared under control by WSFD Assistant Chief Jason Faryniak about 3 p.m.
