Good Cause: 300 at Community Music School benefit

The Community Music School Annual Spring Brunch & Silent Auction brought approximately 300 guests to Lehigh Country Club May 4 for a spring Sunday afternoon filled with food, fellowship and music.

Themed "CMS: Home to Budding Musicians," the event's diverse musical program featured multiple CMS ensembles, as well as solo performances from several talented students and teachers. Selections presented by students ranged from classical to smooth jazz and included performances by the school's Fusion Vocal Ensemble, Silver Winds Flute Choir and Impressions Jazz Ensemble.

A silent auction, with items ranging from original art and getaway stays to gift baskets and theater tickets, helped the fundraising success of the event. New this year was a wine raffle, centerpiece auction and "Support a Student" table where patrons could sponsor lessons or classes for students, all which benefit CMS Programming.

This year's honorary chairs were Mr. and Mrs. Phil Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Masetti, and David Voellinger and Dr. Lona Farr. Committee members included Director of Administration and Development Carolyn Clarke, event Co-Chairs Gwen Wise and Rodolphe Tankpinou, Sharon Albert, Connie Cowen, Patricia Hudson, Susan Phillips, Lawrence Johnson and Barbara Ballard.

Additional guests included: Robert Breslin, Judith R. Diehl, Carol Dorey and John Birseth, Sheila Evans and Bob Carb, Scott and Cathy Fainor, Atty. Jerry and Sally Frank, Charles and Jo Ann Kelly, Steven and Ann Marie Markowitz, The Honorable Arnold C. Rapaport, Melinda Stitt, Dr. Allen and Mrs. Weinstein, and Dr. Ann Williams.

CMS, founded in 1981, is a non-profit, community organization which provides more than 1,100 student services in the Greater Lehigh Valley each year, providing private and group instruction as well as outreach programming in area schools.

CMS provides more than $80,000 annually in financial aid, scholarships and tuition-free outreach programming to students to study music.
