The Siegfried Showstoppers presented their annual musical titled "Yankee Doodle Dandy" May 14 through 16
The show's patriotic theme was timely, with the Memorial Day holiday on the calendar.
After weeks of rehearsals, the cast of 45 children in grades four through six were ready for the curtain to open. Produced by a special arrangement with Contemporary Drama Service, music and lyrics were provided by George M. Cohan and Bill Francoeur, the book by Arthur Zapel.
Janice Gober served as the play's director; Michael Fister as vocal director; and Amanda Roberts as choreographer.
The creative settings and costumes added to the professionalism of the play and its cast.
The play revolved around Snookersville, a town celebrating its 100th anniversary. The town's historical society sought a musical celebration with its youth as the performers. The town's leader, Mrs. Emily, requested the story revolve around her great grandfather. The teens desired to play their own music and use the true story of General Snooker.
With the celestial help of George N. Cohan, the children turned their small musical production into the equivalent of a Broadway show, featuring Cohan's patriotic works such as "Yankee Doodle Dandy," "You're a Grand Old Flag," "Give My Regards to Broadway" and "Harrigan, That's Me!"
The children arranged an amazing show to help the town, Snookersville, celebrate the occasion.
