Schnecksville Fair baking prizes offered
Have a great rhubarb recipe? The best chocolate cake in Lehigh County? From Tuesday through Saturday at the 2014 Schnecksville Community Fair, a special food contest will be held. Monetary awards will be given for first, second and third prize. The public, as well as the contestants, are encouraged to observe the judging each evening at the times listed as follows.

The 31st Schnecksville Community Fair, June 16-21, is at the Fire Company Grounds in Schnecksville, North Whitehall Township, near Lehigh Carbon Community College.

Youth Cupcake Contest, June 17. Sponsored by Houser Auctioneers. Judging: 7 p.m. Bring your item to the fair between 5 - 6:30 p.m. The contest is in its eighth year and is for youth exhibitors 8 - 18 only. The entry is six decorated cupcakes. Awards are 1st - $40, 2nd - $35 and 3rd - $20. The theme for this year is "Treasure the Memories."
Pa Preferred Cookie, Brownie or Bar Baking Contest, June 18. Judging: 6:30 p.m. Bring your item to the fair between 5 - 6 p.m. The contest is for youth 8-18 only. The entry is a plate of six cookies, brownies or bars featuring chocolate or cocoa as a main ingredient, with as many Pa. Preferred products as possible used and listed in the recipe. Awards are 1st - $20, 2nd - $15 and 3rd - $10. First place winner will be eligible to represent the Schnecksville Fair at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Competition in January 2015.
Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Contest, June 18. Sponsored by New Tripoli Bank. Judging: 7 p.m. Bring your item to the fair between 5 - 6:30 p.m. The contest requires you to make an apple pie and you must include 60 percent apples in the filling. Awards are 1st - $150, 2nd - $100 and 3rd - $50. First place winner will be eligible to represent the Schnecksville Fair at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Competition in January 2015.
Angel Food Cake Contest, June 19. Judging: 7 p.m. Bring your item to the fair between 5 - 6 p.m. You are required to use Pennsylvania-produced and packed eggs. The cake can be decorated or filled. Awards are 1st - $85, 2nd - $35 and 3rd - $10. First-place winner will be eligible to represent the Schnecksville Fair at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Competition in January 2015.
Refreshing Rhubarb Dessert Contest, June 20. Judging: 7 p.m. Bring your item to the fair between 5 - 6:30 p.m. The contest is for any dessert using at least one cup of rhubarb. Awards are 1st - $50, 2nd - $25 and 3rd - $10.
Pa Preferred Chocolate Cake Contest, June 21. Sponsored by Neffs National Bank. Judging: 4 p.m. Bring your item to the fair between 2 - 3:45 p.m. The cake recipe must feature chocolate or cocoa as a main ingredient, with as many Pa. Preferred products as possible used and listed in the recipe. Awards are 1st - $150, 2nd - $100 and 3rd - $50. First place winner will be eligible to represent the Schnecksville Fair at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Competition in January 2015 with the state winner receiving $500. The Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's Pa. Preferred program sponsor the Farm Show contest.
