May and June students of the month honored
The Northampton Exchange Club paid tribute May 21 to its Students of the Month for May and June.
The event concluded the Service to Youth recognition program for the Northampton Area High School for the 2013-14 school year.
The Exchange Club at its June dinner meeting at the Northampton Memoral Community Center will recognize the Student of the Year based on an essay and strict criteria from the National Exchange Club.
Awarded the Lamp of Knowledge plaque, certificate of recognition and pen were Autumn Altemose, May Girl of the Month; James T. Gardineer, May Boy of the Month and Kayla Marinelli, June Girl of the Month.
Dr. Rodger Berg, program chairman said the three NAHS seniors have shown purpose and talent in and out of the classroom.
"Use what you have been blessed with by the creator," he told the students.
He told the three seniors to set goals, embrace challenges and strive to accomplish their goals.
He advised the students "to push yourselves, stretch yourselves."
"Be better today than you were yesterday," he said.
The the question of becoming better "is to push yourself ... don't think of limitations," Berg added.
Autumn Altemose, May Girl of the Month: National Honor Society, student council – treasurer/secretary, French Club, Kids for Christ, library aide, drama club, Environthon, blood drive, second service nursery aide and science experiment fair.
James T. Gardenineer, May Boy of the Month: Caring Kids, Chess Club, Tai Kwon Do, and volunteer – Lehigh Township Fire Department.
Kayla Marinelli, June Girl of the Month: National Honor Society, Spanish Club, German Club, SAAD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), drama club, PEACE and Environthon.
