LVCHS Class of 2014 to graduate June 6

It is hard to believe graduation and the end of school is only two weeks away. These last weeks of school are so busy with academic and extra-curricular events that time flies by. The last day of school is Friday, June 6, which consists of our Awards Convocation and NHS Induction, along with the whole check-out process. That evening is our 25th annual graduation ceremony at Cedar Crest Bible Fellowship Church, Allentown at 7 p.m. We will be honoring the class of 2014 as well as the class of 1989, our 1st graduating class.

Exams are coming up as well. The seniors are in the midst of their exams this week, before they leave on their senior trip, a cruise to the Caribbean. The rest of the student body has their exams during the first week of June. AP exams are finished and we are just waiting for the results to come back. The same is true with our achievement tests.

The seniors did a great job of saying farewell to the school in chapel May 14, and honored each teacher for the contribution he/she has made to their success. The juniors also did a great job honoring and saying goodbye to the seniors at the Junior-Senior Banquet last Saturday, and again in chapel this week.

The choir sang the national anthem at the IronPigs day game Monday, May 12, and then stayed and watched a great baseball game. We also have several students from our spring musical participating in the Freddy Awards opening number tonight. They have been rehearsing faithfully for several weeks.

Our Spring sports are almost done and we had a great season. The boys' baseball team placed second in the ACCAC, losing in the championship game, and they have also qualified for PIAA District XI Class A playoffs, which were played yesterday.

The girls' soccer club won the ACCAC championship for the second consecutive year, successfully defending their title. Congratulations!

The track team performed well in the ACSI northeast regional meet and in the PIAA District XI meet as well. The boys placed sixth at ACSI and the girls placed seventh. The team set 10 new school records just in these two meets, and we had 12 individuals or relay teams place in the top eight of their events. Our best finishes were both by junior Jacob Stith, who came in second in both the 800 m and the 1600 m races.

This week is also class officer elections week. We have elected our student council, which will be led by Elizabeth Ruppert, along with Vice-President Livia Gehman, Treasurer Joe Hazler and Secretary Adeline Guthrie. The school chaplain has still not been selected. All of our classes will take their annual class trips during the week of Memorial Day. The seniors are gone all week, the juniors for two days and the other two classes will take one-day trips.

Our head of school will be speaking in chapel at Philipsburg Christian Academy this Friday, and we have a special group coming to perform in a chapel here at the high school May 28 – Silent Witness, a mime group from Lehigh Christian Academy.

LVCHS is already accepting applications for the coming school year. Families that are interested in enrolling their students are encouraged to contact the school immediately, as spaces and financial aid are limited.
