These Saint Thomas More School scholars win the Allentown Diocese CYO Academic Bowl competition held April 27 at Central Catholic High School. The team moved on to the regional competition held May 9 at Notre Dame of Bethlehem School. The team placed second in the district competition. Team members are, from left: Kevin DePietro, of Lower Macungie Township; Andrew Buck, of Allentown; Ryan Schanta, of Salisbury Township; Meghan Carbone, of South Whitehall Township; coach Maureen Fernbacher, of Salisbury Township; James Haag, of Macungie; Natasha Kuklis, of South Whitehall Township, Sam Conway and Olivia Sandler, both of Lower Macungie Township. Fernbacher retired last year as St. Thomas More librarian, but returned this year to provide coaching continuity for the team. Fernbacher said her years of coaching the team began in 1991, the year she appeared on the television quiz show, Jeopardy.
