Representative 131st District

Due to redistricting, as of Dec. 1, 2014, the 131st District of Pennsylvania includes the townships of Lower Milford, Salisbury (Ward 3, div. 1), Upper Milford and Upper Saucon; boroughs of Coopersburg and Emmaus. The District also includes Lower Saucon Township districts 1, 2, 4, 7 and 8 in Northampton County.

Incumbent State Representative Justin Simmons, Republican, is running unopposed in the May 20 primary.

Q. Why should voters re-elect you to represent the 131st district?

A. I ask for your vote so I can continue the progress we've made in Pennsylvania. I successfully fought to restore school funding after the loss of stimulus money from Washington, and today we invest more state tax dollars in education than ever before. I've supported policies to spark job creation which has brought unemployment to its lowest level since 2008, and imposed fees on gas drillers in an effort to make sure they pay for their impact on the environment and follow strict standards to protect our natural resources. Now we must address pension reform, privatization of the state liquor store system, reducing the size of the legislature and making significant changes to the property tax system to provide real relief to homeowners. I will continue to lead on reform by refusing a taxpayer-paid pension, per diems and perks because I know elected office should be about service, not personal enrichment.
