Bauer earns medals in four events at CL Meet

Many track and field athletes train and compete all season long for the postseason. Some give it their all just to place in one event and be able to take home a single medal.

Lindsay Bauer had four different opportunities to place in different events at last week's Colonial League track and field meet at the Zephyr Sports Complex at Whitehall High School. The sophomore capitalized by taking home three gold medals, one bronze and the right to call herself a school record holder.

"Sweeping all the events would be my dream meet," she said after receiving her bronze medal for her third-place finish in the 200-meter dash. "I think I came as close to that as I could. I'm really happy. I wasn't expecting it, but I knew I could do this. I knew I wasn't going to win the 200-meter dash. I was hoping for second, but I'm happy and proud with third."

Bauer's successful meet began early on Tuesday, the first day of the two-day meet, as she grabbed gold in the long jump at 17-8 and set a new school record in the process. She also beat out Wilson's Carli Swiatek, who defeated Bauer in this event at last year's meet.

Despite the triumphant result, Bauer said it was an emotional roller coaster.

"I was feeling good, but then I got really nervous because Carli jumped a 17 and I won on my last jump," said Bauer. "So I was nervous the entire time, but after I jumped my last one, I knew I had it. I felt it. I knew it was a good jump."

The rest of her accolades came on day two as Bauer took gold in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.05 and first in triple jump with a distance of 35-10 1/4.

The sophomore was undefeated in the long jump, triple jump and the 400-meter dash this season in the Colonial League.

Having such a great showing at leagues leaves Bauer with high hopes for districts this week.

"I'm really confident and really excited [for districts]," she said. "This just proved to me that I can do all of this. I had the determination and I had the passion. I just made it happen."

Wednesday was full of smiles for the Lady Falcon, as she made three separate trips to the medal stand that day.

"I'm really excited, but it has been a really long day," said Bauer. "My legs just really hurt."
