LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

North Whitehall Township

The Youth Group of St. John's United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, had an interesting experience cleaning up a 1-mile section on both sides of Route 145, north of Clearview Road, recently.

They planned to accomplish the job during two hours on a Saturday morning but found that wasn't nearly enough time to pick up everything.

They returned after Sunday worship and after a total of seven hours had most of the garbage stuffed into 100 bags.

Youth and adults participating in the clean-up report a few things observed during the experience: enough car parts were found to build a nearly complete auto, hundreds of people went through the winter with only one glove, a significant number of individuals are missing their underwear, and beer is very popular.

Earlier this year, the youth group raised $1,300 for Heifer Project International.

St. John's is inviting young people who are going into seventh or eighth grades to enroll in confirmation class this fall.

The program offers a two-year series of opportunities to explore a journey of faith.

On Palm Sunday, the center aisle of Union Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, was covered by 367 pieces of new clothing for children in center city Allentown.

The action followed the example of people who welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem by lining the road with cloaks and palm branches.
