Northwestern fire companies consider having one insurance policy for all

Tony Blackwell and Wes Fritz of General Insurance attended the recent meeting of the Northwestern Lehigh Regional Emergency Services Committee to give a presentation on insurance for the fire companies.

Currently, each fire company has its own policy. By having one policy to cover all the fire companies, a cost savings could be realized.

Two plans were discussed with the second plan being the most viable.

This plan has extra benefits, such as loss of work income, funeral expenses and retraining for a new job.

The cost would be $3,647 per fire company per year.

Chairman Donald Christ wants a letter of affirmation from each relief association before signing up for the coverage.

Germansville Fire Company representative Randy Metzger gave his recruitment report.

They plan to repeat the firefighter games at the "Night in the Country" this year. A table will be set up to offer information to the public on the benefits of becoming a firefighter.

"Night in the Country" will be Aug. 16 with a rain date of Aug. 17.

Metzger noted Parkland School District has a firefighter class and they would be willing to help Northwestern set up a similar class.

Individual fire department reports followed.

Germansville Fire Chief Jay Scheffler noted classes in fire survival were completed recently.

Lynnport reported its trailer is ready and it can haul three ATVs.

The Lynnport Fire Company Jamboree will feature firefighter games from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. June 28.

A simulated rescue from a motor vehicle will be demonstrated 3-4 p.m. An information table will be set up at this function also to recruit volunteer fire fighters.

The New Tripoli Fire Company is having a chicken barbecue 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 15. Anyone ordering by May 29 will receive a 50-cent discount.

The next meeting of the Emergency Services Committee is scheduled for Aug. 20, at the New Tripoli Fire Company.
