Toman, Bauer earn gold at ASD

Kaitlin Toman had quite the day at the Penn Relays last Thursday as she jumped 11-7 in the girls' pole vault, which set a new personal record and a new school record.

She did even better last Friday at the Allentown School District Invitational as the junior notched 11-9 in that event, breaking her record that she set just 24 hours before.

"I was so tired from yesterday," Toman said after receiving her medal. "Coming into this meet I was just trying to do 11-6 again. Jumping 11-9 is just crazy. Personal records in back-to-back days is great."

Another Falcon that achieved a new personal record at the invitational, held at J. Birney Crum Stadium, was Lindsay Bauer. She grabbed gold in girls' triple jump with a distance of 36-9.

The sophomore, who was being coached by 2013 Salisbury graduate and state medalist Dan Reichenbach at the event, gained optimism from her performance last Friday.

"It gives me a lot of confidence going forward," she said. "There are a lot of teams here, I believe most of them are [Class AAA] and we compete in districts in 2A. To be able to beat all of these 3A schools means that I not only can do good things in districts, but I can even make an impact at states."

Bauer also nabbed third in the girls 400 meter dash with a time of 59.34.

For the Salisbury boys, Kyle Gonoude finished second in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:27.12, just shy of his personal record.

While many distance runners develop plans of pacing themselves, the Salisbury junior doesn't buy into that.

"I'm a simple guy," Gonoude said. "Just go out there and run as hard as you can for as far as you can and see what happens."

Top four finishes at the invitational were earned by Salisbury junior Makenzie Groff, who took home bronze from the girls shot put with a throw of nine feet, and Holly Szita, who finished fourth in girls high jump with a height of 5-2.

Salisbury's girls finished fourth in team points with 41, just behind Stroudsburg at 64.5 and ahead of Colonial League champ Northwestern at 32.5.

Salisbury's boys team finished in 19th place in team points.

East Stroudsburg North won the boys meet with 61.2 points, beating Whitehall (53.75) and Palmerton (50.5).

North Penn won the girls title at the ASD Meet. The Knights beat second-place Emmaus (90) for this year's title.
