Salisbury Police Department School Resource Officer Richard Nothstein receives a supply of no-longer-needed drugs from Salisbury Township resident Gail Evans at the South Mall April 26. Nothstein was staffing one of 16 Lehigh County locations for the area's participation in the Eighth National Drug Take Back Day. The event helps residents safely dispose of outdated, unwanted and unused prescription drugs. On the previous drug take back event in Lehigh County, held October 2013, more than a ton of drugs was reclaimed. Area police departments, the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office and the federal Drug Enforcement Agency coordinate the event, and the drugs are turned over to the DEA for safe incineration. Nothstein pointed out to those participating at the South Mall a permanent secure collection container at the Salisbury Police Department, 3000 S. Pike Ave., is available for drug drop-off during normal weekday business hours.
