Lehigh County District Attorney James B. Martin announced April 22 a new assistant district attorney has joined the office.

Jared J. Hanna, 26, of Macungie, had been a law clerk for Lehigh County Judge J. Brian Johnson since Jan. 2, 2013. As a law clerk, Hanna responded to motions, helped write orders and opinions primarily in civil matters and did work on family, custody and Orphans' Court matters.

Hanna was an intern in the district attorney's office in 2011. As a certified legal intern, he conducted hearings when juveniles were charged with misdemeanors, helped to write appellate briefs and conducted research for assistant district attorneys.

He graduated from Moravian College with a bachelor's degree in political science in 2009 and received his law degree from the University of Miami School of Law in 2012.

Hanna was a member of the litigation skills program, a research assistant for a professor in 2012, a committee member of student ambassadors and an orientation member for the Class of 2014.

He received the Computer Assisted Legal Instruction Award, which is given by a professor to the student with the highest grade in a particular class or field, and the Dean's Certificate of Achievement in Gaming Law.
