Site work underway at Bevin Drive facility

Work is underway at a site along Bevin Drive, Salisbury Township, as heavy equipment from Scheuerman Excavating Inc, of Whitehall, contours the earth in preparation for the start of construction of a retirement complex for aging Jehovah's Witnesses. The long overgrown lot, along Bevin Drive, between Lehigh Street and Regent Court, near the South Mall, will be transformed into two single-story buildings consisting of a total of 30,000-square-feet. The $6.5 million Legacy Place Cottages will be constructed by Serfass Construction Company, a 65-year-old Lehigh Valley family-owned, full-service construction management firm, headquartered at 3764 Mauch Chunk Road, Allentown. The facility is being built for Jah-Jireh Homes of America, and is intended for elderly citizens who subscribe to the beliefs of the Jehovah's Witnesses. The complex will be comprised of three households: including a memory care facility for those with Alzheimer's Disease or dementia with 12 bedrooms; and two households with 10 bedrooms each and attached through a common kitchen area.
