PennDOT began work April 7 to rehabilitate I-78, between Exit 35 (Route 143) and the Lehigh County line in Greenwich and Maxatawny townships, Berks County.
The project includes concrete patching, milling and paving, and new pavement markings.
Motorists can expect daily eastbound or westbound lane restrictions on this section of I-78 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Drivers are urged to exercise caution while driving through the work zones, and to be alert for construction vehicles making sudden stops and turns.
The project is scheduled to be completed in August.
Reading Materials Inc., Skippack, is the general contractor on the $5,029,992 project.
The average daily traffic volume on this section of I-78 is 38,500 vehicles.
